Where do I begin my search? I always start with my good buddy, Mr Google. First, type in something like "Find airline tickets for cheap". Just last night a forum poster steered me to a website where I found seats from Calgary, Canada to London for as low as CAN$59. Don't quit if you can't quickly find the seats you want, when you want them. Don't take no for an answer if you're told you can't get to where you want to go. Recently I needed to get from Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia to Auckland, New Zealand and was told the only way was with an overnight stop in Sydney. By breaking my journey down into several possible routes, I was able to get what I needed by searching each leg of the trip individually. The website I was on (Quantas) insisted that there was no way I could avoid an overnighter. I did it by leaving OZ on a late flight from Adelaide. Their computer incorrectly assumed that I would want to leave the country through Sidney.You won't always be successful but it's often worth the trouble to dig deeper. One thing to keep in mind is, if you're going to use more than one airline to put you're trip together, consider buying trip cancellation insurance. If one flight is delayed or canceled the other airline is not going to help you out if you miss a flight. For example if Quantas is late and causes you to miss another Quantas flight they will make sure you get along later at no charge. If the second flight is with United, neither carrier is likely to compensate you for the missed flight.
